Since the launch of the current-generation Mustang, car enthusiasts are waiting for its most famous version, the legendary GT500. For a couple of years, we’ve been hearing all kinds of stories about the new version and it seems the legend is finally here.
Surprisingly, the crowd saw first photos on the internet. A few days ago, 2019 Shelby Mustang GT500 images were leaked, believe it or not, on Instagram. A young guy from Detroit posted a couple of images.
A few moments later, all renowned car magazines came with reports. First, one to publish the article about this unusual event was jalopnik.com, a website that always has fresh news from the automotive industry. Soon after, several other reputable magazines wrote about this leak, including Motor Authority, Car Buzz and Top Speed, which indicates that something is cooking.
Interestingly, we still didn’t get any kind of official confirmation from the official whether the photos are actually real or not. Moreover, neither any of our insiders can confirm that this is a genuine GT500.
In any case, these images show a lot of interesting things. We can clearly see that the new 2019 Shelby Mustang GT500 won’t go too far from the GT350, at least in terms of style. There aren’t too many distinctive details. The first thing you’ll notice is a massive carbon fiber rear spoiler. Interestingly, wheels are also made of carbon fiber, as well as the hood scoop. Obviously, Ford wants to make it clear that this car is all about performances. Besides visual upgrades, we expect to see a few distinctive details on the inside, as well as an additional modification on the chassis.
Speaking of performances, experts are speculating about the engine for years. Pretty much all of them agree that the new 5.2-liter V8 is a natural choice. It debuted in the GT350 and should undergo numerous modifications for this occasion. This would result in a significant power increase. Most experts agree that a max output will definitely go over 700 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. Some of them even go that far, suggesting 770 hp, which would make it the Ford’s most powerful production car ever. In any case, the new GT500 will definitely be on par in terms of power with arch-rivals Dodge SRT Hellcat and Chevy Camaro ZL1. Also, the latest reports suggest that the new GT500 will use the same 7-speed dual-clutch transmission as Ford GT supercar. Of course, an optional manual transmission that will be able to handle such a huge amount of power is expected as well.
Whether these images are real or not, the 2019 Shelby GT500 will come pretty soon. Although we are still waiting to hear from the officials, there is no doubt that the premiere will happen at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show in January. Until then, hope for more leaks like this.
